64-bit: Configuring ODBC Excel and Access Connections
If you have a 64-bit Vista or Windows 7, with 32-bit Microsoft Office installed and 64-bit Map 3D or Civil 3D, you may receive errors such as “An external component has thrown an exception”, “Failed to Connect”, “Failed to create the data source file: XXXXX”, or “Test connection failed because of an error” when trying to connect to an Office or Access file via either the ODBC FDO provider or a link template.
