Tip Tuesday! Its the Little Things in PLM 360

Today’s tip is pretty basic, but you’re like me and like things just so, it’s an important one!  When setting up the workspace descriptor, consider having at least one of the fields used in the descriptor a required field.  Why?  Here’s what a record might look like if you don’t:Note in the left pane view (something I rely on heavily!), the item descriptor is blank as well as in the item header.  If I put back my autonumber and make the name field required, I get results that are much more usable:Like I said, it’s the little things…  You can read more about how to Specify Descriptor Fields on the Wiki.--Michelle
Feature Friday: Heres a Zippy New Feature You Can Get Attached To in PLM 360

TGIFeatureFriday!  Last weekend bought a new release of PLM 360 and as usual, I have a new feature to blog about (several in fact if you’re reviewing the ‘What’s New in PLM 360’ page where you can always keep up with the latest features).Today we’ll talk about how you can now download BOM attachments – this allows you to get all the attachments packaged into a single Zip file.  This can be key if you have a deliverable for a customer/client.  You notice when you navigate to a top level assembly you can see the attachments not just on the item directly, but also short cuts to related items:You can get all of these from the BOM tab:Select and it will zip and download them all for you.Enjoy!--Michelle StonePhoto: Miia Ranta
Take a Carousel Ride (Client Viewing in 2014)

Another big change to the Vault client interface in 2014 is the preview tab, where we have introduced a new control that both adds additional preview capabilities and greatly improves document viewing performance. So what does it do?  Well, users are now able to select a file, go down and activate the view tab on the details pane and instead of immediately loading the document viewer the user is presented with a thumbnail preview, if there is more than one version/revision of the document available the user will see a number of thumbnail prevews arranged in a “carousel” view.  The carousel view allows the user to thumb through the file version history, get a quick and dirty thumbnail view and from there can select the version they want to preview if needed.  Click on the thumbnail and Vault loads the doc previewer so you are able to view the higher quality visualization file.Adding the extra thumbnail preview here makes it quicker to locate the right file, identify the right version and reduce the time and resources taken to load every visualization file (remember what the performance is like when you accidentally leave the view tab active and start cycling through different files – its not that great huh). The same thumbnail preview has been added in other locations like the change order and item preview window with the same results.-Allan
Tip Tuesday! Getting Technical Support for PLM 360

A few months ago we talked about different support avenues for PLM 360 in ‘Singing “Help Me” with PLM 360’.  Autodesk recently revamped Subscription Center to make it even easier for our customers and resellers to log support cases based on your feedback, and the PLM team has gotten some questions around the various types of support, so we took it a step further and decided to revisit the topic. I threw together a video walking through step by step how to use Subscription Center.  Feel free to watch PLM 360 Support Overview:An important bit to note – there are 3 different levels of support for the PLM 360 product:If you’re an end user and have questions about your level of support, please contact your PLM Administrator.Other important links:Community support forumQuick Guide to Using Subscription BenefitsPLM TVAutodesk PLM 360 IdeaStationAutodesk PLM 360 Services & SupportPLM Talk Technical Webinar SeriesHope this helps!--Michelle StonePhoto: gruntzooki
