Empowering Adult Educators and Workforce Professionals

A Conversation on KeyweLearn with Kim Glenn

We sat down with Kim Glenn, EDSI’s Managing Director of Innovative Learning Solutions, to learn more about the creation, purpose, and future of KeyweLearn—EDSI’s new public-facing professional development catalog designed to serve the adult education and workforce development fields.

Q: What inspired the creation of KeyweLearn?

A: For years we’ve been asked why we don’t have a public-facing catalog. We held off—because we love being in the customized training space! Quality matters more than quantity for us and ensuring quality in our off-the-shelf training modules is paramount. We didn’t want to launch until we knew we could deliver something exceptional and different.

KeyweLearn isn’t your typical off-the-shelf training. Take a look at how our approach compares to traditional options—and what sets us apart.

KeyweLearn is Here!

Q: Why is now the right time?

A: We’re seeing critical funding cuts across WIOA and adult education programs. KeyweLearn is our way of protecting access to professional learning—making it affordable, flexible, and available anytime, anywhere.

“If staff can’t access quality PD, students suffer. And our students are the future of our workforce.”

Kim Glenn, EDSI Managing Director of Innovative Learning Solutions

Q: What’s the story behind the name?

A: Our Chief Servant Leader, Kevin Schnieders coined the phrase ‘the key to the way we learn.’ Initially, we launched “Keywe” as our learning management platform. KeyweLearn is an extension of that and represents our public facing catalog. The name honors Kevin’s vision and represents our belief in accessible, inclusive, and purpose-driven learning.

Q: What’s in the first catalog?

A: Our Innovative Learning Solutions team has been providing professional development in the adult education space for almost two decades. We launched with a focus on adult education because we know this space—and we have the content. We have spent years designing customized professional development and now get to offer some of our courses in a more universally applicable format.  Topics include Scaffolding and Differentiation, Ensuring ADA and WCAG Essentials, Healing Trauma in Ourselves and Our Schools, Strategies to Promote Learner Persistence, and more.

Q: What sets KeyweLearn apart?

A: Specialization and quality. We’re not trying to do everything—we’re doing what we’re great at! We have some great partners who will be offering webinars and self-paced courses.  For example, we will have a webinar coming up this year on working with students with Autism delivered by renowned expert Christina Marsack-Topolewski, Ph.D., LMSW. She is the most published author in the world on Autism.  These types of partnerships will provide current and exceptionally high quality experiences for our customers. I cannot forget our IACET credentialing, ISO-certified processes, and annual course reviews either! We offer badges, certifications, credentials, and more. We have a system that guarantees quality that lasts.

Q: What formats are available?

A: People learn on top of their jobs, not as part of them. So KeyweLearn offers formats that offer flexible solutions:

  • Self-paced course that can be taken anytime, anywhere, at a pace that suits each individual learner.
  • Microlearning courses for short bursts of learning that slowly build and scaffold knowledge.
  • Virtual workshops offered via Zoom will have expert facilitators and guest speakers who are known in their field.
  • We are getting ready to launch some hybrid and credentialed certification courses this year too.  Stay tuned!

Q: Why start with adult education?

A: This community needs us now. With funding cuts and lots of uncertainty, adult education staff still deserve high-quality, affordable learning opportunities—and we already had the content to help them. We knew this was the time to start sharing our work.

Q: What does success look like?

A: With KeyweLearn it is all about the learner.  We are shooting for transfer of learning. If someone takes a course, implements what they learn, and improves their practice—that’s a win. We want people to apply what they learn, and that’s why every course includes facilitator support and explicit resources to support them beyond the course.

Q: What’s coming this fall?

A: We are incredibly excited to take our four decades of experience in workforce development and offer a Workforce Development Catalog that will support front-line staff, case managers, career navigators, and leaders. We are leveraging our vault of courses to offer front-line staff a variety of workshops including:

  • Career Coaching/Navigation
  • Integrated Career and Case Management Credential
  • Introduction to WIOA
  • Managing Difficult Behaviors
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Slaying the “Sale” for Business Service Representatives
  • And so much more!

Q: How can readers shape the platform?

A: We’re inviting requests! If there’s a course you wish existed—or one you want adapted for your team—reach out. We’re also offering custom solutions, bulk pricing, and in-person delivery by request. We can also offer subscription models. We want to make sure you have what you need so don’t hesitate to ask about our customized solutions. Reach out to us for more details!
